Navracsics says Europe should reconnect with cultural sphere

Brussels, 25/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - Europe should reconnect with the cultural sphere. The Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Tibor Navracsics, said that economic performance would not be enough to guarantee that the European Union found its real legitimate and sustainable role. The Commissioner made his comments at a Creators Conference on Tuesday 24 February, in Brussels. The Commissioner also referred to the new technologies that had revolutionised access to culture and which made the implementation of new commercial models indispensable in order to respond to the needs of people, whilst protecting creators' interests. In the context of question of revised copyright, Navracsics said that a consensus was currently taking shape at the Commission in favour of greater portability and asserted, “Citizens who pay for content in one member state should be able to access it wherever they travel in the EU”.
