20/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - Cadec backs management plan for sea bass. The European Commission announced on Tuesday 20 January that it was closing pelagic trawling for sea bass until 30 April 2015 (see EUROPE 11233). Alain Cadec, who chairs the European Parliament's fisheries committee, says “these measures are for a limited length of time. We have to prepare what comes next. I call on the Commission, therefore, to begin work immediately on a long-term management plan that takes account of the diversity of this fishery, both professional and recreational”. Cadec is calling on the Commission to put a legislative text to Parliament, under the co-decision procedure, on a sustainable EU-wide sea bass management plan within six months. (LC)
