Brussels, 13/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - Speaking from Tokyo and quoted by AFP, the President of the Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, says that we will work with “whomever will be the new government” of Greece. “If the Greeks stick to their side of the deal (…), if necessary, we are prepared to do more”, he added.
The Greek finance minister, Gikas Hardouvelis, warned about the possibility of his country leaving the eurozone. “It's not necessarily a bluff”, he said from Athens on Monday, quoted by Bloomberg, adding that accidents can happen. Benoît Coeuré, of the ECB Governing Council, however, dismissed the idea in an interview with Die Welt. “Nobody is seriously discussing the issue of Greece leaving the euro area, nor is anybody actually seriously preparing for that option. Greece needs the euro, and the euro needs Greece,” said Coeuré.
The Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, was expected in Athens on Tuesday evening, to lend his support to the outgoing Greek Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras. (EL)
