Brussels, 13/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 12 January, the European Federation of Publishers met with Xavier Prats Monné, director general from DG Education and Culture, and Robert Madelin, director general from DG Connect, to present them with the most recent developments in the European publishing sector.
The publishing sector has not been left behind with regard to changes in new technology and has adapted the way it works and publishes content but it expects the European institutions to develop positive policies that take into account this development. This should include: the adoption of fair and balanced rules on copyright, VAT rates that are as low as possible for printed and E-books and fair competition on the Internet. The European Federation of Publishers illustrated the fact that the sector was healthy and that annual sales in 2013 were worth €22.3 billion in the EU and EEA and a total of around 560,000 new titles were issued by publishers, with a total workforce in the sector of 130,000.
