Brussels, 12/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - Entrepreneurship should be developed from an early age and links forged between education and the world of business, states the Education Council in a series of conclusions adopted on 12 December.
Entrepreneurship in education and training can foster employability, self-employment and active citizenship, in these times of high unemployment, particularly among young people, according to the Council. tating that the efforts made by the member states remain, in general terms, relatively limited in terms of support for and promotion of entrepreneurship, the conclusions call on member states to do more, and to make full use of the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ scheme in supporting entrepreneurship education, for example, through online tools such as knowledge alliances for higher education and in sectoral skills alliances for VET (vocational education and training).
Education and training systems, and teachers and trainers themselves, must instil the basic skills, such as literacy and numeracy and how business works, but also develop the cross-cutting skills needed, which include creativity and a sense of initiative, problem solving and critical thinking, decision-making and risk taking.
