Montenegro expected to open four chapters

Brussels, 12/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - At an EU-Montenegro intergovernmental conference on Tuesday 16 December, Montenegro is expected to open four new negotiation chapters. A European source told EUROPE that the chapters are the financial and budgetary provisions (Chapter 33), customs union (Chapter 29), consumers and health protection (Chapter 28) and statistics (Chapter 18).

In October, the Commission sounded an early warning on Chapters 23 (judicial apparatus and fundamental rights) and 24 (freedom, security and justice), without it being activated, because Montenegro was not making enough progress in these chapters that were opened in December 2013.

Twelve chapters have been opened since October 2013. Ten are still open and two are provisionally closed.

Enlargement will be a subject at the General Affairs Council on 16 December. (CG)
