Brussels, 09/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) has announced five new projects on youth employment, job creation, businesses, urban development and water management. The decision was taken on Friday 5 December by senior officials in the Euro-Mediterranean process, and the projects will be added to a long list already decided upon over the course of this year (29 projects in total, according to the UfM, which are in the process of being studied). The issue of funding for the projects remains pertinent.
The difficulty of attracting high level investors for big projects such as those selected at the start on a priority list (solar plan, motorways of the sea, trans-Maghrebi motorway) is no longer even mentioned. This has led the UfM and its decision-making committee (the group of high-level officials) to more modest dimensions, like organising thematic meetings and “labelling” actions take by other Euro-Mediterranean bodies, often already supported by public funds that are essentially from the Community or the member states.
