Brussels, 17/11/2014 (Agence Europe)- According to the conclusions adopted by the Council of the EU, without debate, on Monday 17 November, Georgia is making very satisfactory progress to its “visa free” regime. The Council reaffirms “the EU's commitment to the shared objective of visa-free travel for the citizens of Georgia provided that all the conditions for well-managed and secure mobility as set out in the Action Plan on Visa Liberalisation are in place”. The Council, therefore, “welcomes the Commission's second progress report of 29 October 2014 on the implementation of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalisation by Georgia”. The Council shares the analysis that Georgia has fulfilled all the benchmarks under the first phase of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalisation. Since November 2013, Georgia has adopted legislative provisions in the areas of document security, asylum, the fight against corruption and money laundering, as well as other measures to tackle detected shortcomings. The dialogue on the liberalisation of the visa regime between the EU and Georgia was launched on 4 June 2012 and the action plan was presented to the Georgian authorities on 25 February 2013. Since March 2011, Georgian nationals have benefited from a visa facilitation system. (SP)
