Bulc said road safety is European success but wants more

Brussels, 17/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - Violeta Bulc, the European Commissioner for Transport, said that road safety would not become the poor relation under her watch. She also confirmed during World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Sunday 16 November that this subject would become one of our top priorities.

Speaking at this event, Bulc stated that road safety was a European success story because the roads were much safer than they were 20 years ago. Nonetheless, she deplored the fact that 26,000 people were still dying every year in road accidents and that many people were still suffering from “horrific injuries”. She therefore used this remembrance day to talk about those who had been physically and mentally affected by road accidents and pointed out that behind the statistics, those close to the victims were suffering and that this was an unacceptable price to pay for mobility.
