28/08/2014 (Agence Europe) - Likely investigation into Qualcomm. Reuters reported on Tuesday 26 August that the European Commission was planning to open a formal investigation into the mobile chip manufacturer Qualcomm, to determine whether it has abused its dominant position. On Wednesday 27 August, the Commission refused as usual to comment on articles in the press. The Commission may open an investigation after the summer break following a complaint lodged four years ago by Qualcomm's competitor Icera, which is now owned by Nvidia Corp. The latter is said to be accusing Qualcomm of anti-competitive practices, such as price and patent incentives and special discount prices. (EL)
