Brussels, 18/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - Following a very large number of complaints concerning purchases of apps included in internet games, particularly purchases made accidentally by children, the national authorities have come together with the European Commission to seek solutions to this problem, the Commission said in a press release published on Friday 18 July.
Coordinated intervention at EU level on in-app purchases has made real progress possible and seen tangible results, says the Commission.
Using the consumer protection cooperation mechanism provided by EU rules, Apple, Google and relevant trade associations were asked to provide concrete solutions across the EU to the concerns raised. Google has decided on a number of changes. Apple has proposed to look into the issue but has unfortunately not yet put forward any immediate concrete solutions to deal with the concerns linked to the payment authorisation, in particular. The application measures, which may include legal action, are in the hands of the national authorities, which will now look into how to address the outstanding legal issues. (LC)
