On Thursday 17 July, the Council appointed - by common accord with European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and in line with Article 246 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union - the following people as members of the European Commission for the remainder of its current term of office - that is, until 31 October 2014 (see EUROPE 11123): Jyrki Katainen (Finland), responsible for economic and monetary affairs and the euro; - Jacek Dominik (Poland), responsible for financial programming and the budget; - Ferdinando Nelli Feroci (Italy), responsible for industry and entrepreneurship; and Martine Reicherts (Luxembourg), responsible for justice, fundamental rights and citizenship.
