EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT 2014 / (ae) ep 2014

26/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - All European Commissioners standing in the European elections have been elected as MEPs. The European commissioners on unpaid leave from work since April to stand in the European elections have all been elected as MEPs, said a European Commission spokeswoman, Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, on Monday 26 May. These are Viviane Reding (Justice and Fundamental Rights Commissioner), Olli Rehn (Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner), Maros Sefcovic (Administration Commissioner), Janusz Lewandowski (Budget Commissioner), Neven Mimica (Consumer Commissioner) and Antonio Tajani (Industry Commissioner). They have until the end of June to decide whether to resign as commissioners to take up office at the European Parliament and were due back at work on Monday. Despite topping the list of Luxembourg MEPs, Reding is still hoping to be appointed European commissioner again (for the fourth time) in the next Commission if Jean-Claude Juncker does not become the president of the Commission and if the PM of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, decides not to appoint minister Nicolas Schmit as European commissioner.
