On Saturday 24 May, it was “in the strongest terms” that the European Union condemned the attack against the Federal Parliament in the Somali capital Mogadishu. “We stress the importance of preserving and protecting this key institution. We deplore the loss of life and extend our condolences to the families of the deceased”, says the press release published by the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton. The EU commends “the swift response of the security forces of the Federal Government of Somalia and AMISOM in responding to this vicious act”. (AN)
