On Monday 26 May, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and Iran's Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Javad Zarif met in Istanbul (Turkey) to discuss progress on the Iranian nuclear programme negotiations, according to Iranian media. This informal meeting is scheduled to last two days - in other words, it will also continue on Tuesday - said a source close to the Iranian negotiators, quoted by Mehr. The meeting will “focus on progress in the nuclear negotiations”, according to the source. Ashton's spokesperson did not confirm to EUROPE that this meeting was taking place, and did not want to comment on the content of the meeting or on how long it would last. The negotiations in Vienna on 13-16 May did not make much headway. (CG)
