Brussels, 25/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - Encouraged by the Dutch delegation, a note on “the Frontrunners initiative” was released during the Competitiveness Council on Monday 26 May.
The initiative involves collaboration between economically liberal countries to improve the single market. The countries in question are Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Estonia, Ireland, Lithuania and Malta. The first four delegations were behind the original initiative. Work recently began and focuses on four priority areas: single market centres; single points of contact; recognition of professional qualifications; and barriers to e-Commerce.
The resources made available include the exchange of best practice, peer pressure and enhanced coordination to benefit from cross-border trade potential in the single market. These countries also recommend stimulating reform in other member states. The note indicates that the first results from the initiative will be presented at December's Competitiveness Council. (MD)
