Brussels, 09/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - The (external) report evaluating the fishing agreement between the EU and Mozambique, which was published on 7 May on the website of DG Maritime and Fishery Affairs, recommends renewing the protocol for an extended period of four or five years in order to ensure a certain level of stability.
The report, which was commissioned by the European Commission, also suggests: - introducing in the next protocol a human rights clause in accordance with the reformed common fisheries policy (CFP); - keeping the same fishing opportunities for tuna, “as utilisation (licences and catches) can be expected to increase over the next few years”; - if possible, introduce access provisions in the new protocol for EU shrimp trawlers “in compliance with the principles of the reformed CFP”.
