Brussels, 09/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - The political plank of the cooperation agreement between the European Union and the six countries of Central America (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama) entered into force on 1 May.
“With the entry into force of this agreement and the provisional entry into force of the association agreement last year, the EU and Central America have put in place the tools to develop comprehensive relations covering political, economic and cooperation issues”, said High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, in a press release. The themes of common interest include social cohesion, security and regional integration.
The commercial plank of the cooperation and association agreement has been in place with the six countries of the region since 1 December 2013 (see EUROPE 10974).
