Preparing for the European summit in June

Brussels, 09/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - The EU General Affairs Council in Brussels on Tuesday 13 May will discuss preparations for the European summit on 26-27 June. The Council will also mark the occasion of the ten-year anniversary of the 2004 enlargement that brought ten new countries to the European Union.

The Council will examine a draft annotated agenda drawn up by the president of the European Council, the Greek Presidency and the European Commission for the European summit in Brussels on 26-27 June. The European summit will focus on freedom, security and justice; strategic guidelines for legislative and operational planning; growth, competitiveness and jobs and the European semester. The summit will also look at ways of reducing the EU's energy dependency based on a plan presented by the Commission and its detailed study of the international situation. Depending on events in the outside world, the European summit may also discuss specific foreign policy issues. (LC)
