Brussels, 27/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 8 April in Brussels, the European Commission and European Parliament will award prizes to 150 teachers and students for their proactive participation in the eTwinning network in 2013. The prizes will be awarded in three different categories based on the age of the children (4-11, 12-15, and 16-19). The European Schoolnet network explained that this “is a unique occasion to showcase great examples of collaborative work across European countries and beyond, reaffirming eTwinning's important role in shaping a European space for education”. This year, representatives from schools in Poland, Greece, Romania, Italy, Spain, Malta, Iceland, France and Turkey will be taking part in the ceremony. The ceremony will be chaired by Director General of DG Education and Culture at the European Commission Jan Truszczynski, Malika Benarab-Attou MEP (Greens/EFA, France) and the expert attached to European Schoolnet and responsible for eTwinning, Anne Gilleran.
Since it was set up nine years ago, the European Commission's eTwinning action has involved 250,000 teachers in 32 countries cooperating in educational projects. (IL)
