25/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - Controversy surrounding racist comments by MEP. Andreas Mölzer MEP, the head of the European list for the far |Right Austrian FPÖ party, was criticised on Tuesday 25 March for making racist comments and comparing the European Union to the Nazis. According to the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, Mölzer stated during an event in February that the EU was in danger of becoming “a hodgepodge of niggers and absolute chaos… It is absolutely true that everyone, from the Portuguese to Estonians, the Swedes to the Sicilians, are poking fun at we Germans and Austrians. We are the only ones to begin work at 9 o'clock and not at 11”. In a press release, the MEP apologised for his “bad choice of words”. He did not rule out resigning but the leader of the FPÖ, Heinz-Christian Strache, gave him his backing and said that, following the apologies of his candidate, the affair was now “closed”. (LC)
