Brussels, 25/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 24 March, the Council of Ministers adopted (in Point A) the proposal for a decision establishing European Union action in favour of the European Capitals of Culture for 2020-2033. The new action aims to increase the efficiency of the current procedures for designating the European Capitals of Culture - procedures which date from 2006 and are applicable until 2019. The new arrangements aim to ensure a smooth transition for the European Capitals of Culture. Nevertheless, the European Capitals of Culture are still about preserving and promoting diversity and the points in common from European cultures, as well as favouring the contribution of culture to the long-term development of the cities.
