Brussels, 28/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - Morocco is relaunching its undersea tunnel project near Gibraltar, announced Morocco's minister delegate for transport, Mohamed Najib Boulif, in Brussels on Thursday - as reported by Morocco's official news agency MAP.
Morocco “wants to convince the countries of the region and a number of lenders to back this enormous project that has been under discussion for 20 years or so”, says MAP, quoting Najib Boulif. Indeed Najib Boulif asserts “the ambition of the Kingdom [of Morocco] to manage to present its partners with a technically viable project in the next two or three years”.
“As well as the maritime tunnel of Gibraltar, Morocco also wants to garner the support of the EU and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) for other structural projects in the land, maritime and air domain”, says Najib Boulif, mentioning in particular the motorway that will serve the port of Nador, one of the big Mediterranean projects, and the high speed train line (LGV) that Morocco plans to extend to Marrakesh and Agadir, MAP states.
