Brussels, 12/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - In a vote on Wednesday 12 February, the MEPs of Parliament committee on civil liberties (LIBE) called for the citizens of Moldova to be exempted from visa requirements to travel to the Schengen countries. According to a report which was adopted by 46 votes to two, the MEPs gave Tanja Falon (S&D, Slovenia) a mandate to start talks with the Council. Moldova is the first country of the Eastern Partnership to have met all of the requirements for a visa-free regime, the MEPs state. The committee hopes for confirmation on 25 February in plenary session and formal adoption by the Council in early March. (SP/transl.fl)
