Railways package - Cramer argues for separate vote

Brussels, 25/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - With his back to the wall over the postponement until 17 December of the vote on the fourth railway package, Green MEP Michael Cramer (Germany), rapporteur on the railway sector, has argued in favour of holding a vote on the technical pillar (security and European Railways Agency) separate from the one from the political pillar (opening up of the market and governance).

At the start of the meeting of the Transport committee on Monday 25 November, he criticised the vote postponement procedure, which had been called for by the EPP and S&D coordinators who are the rapporteurs on the political pillar. Cramer would rather have carried out the vote on the three reports under the technical pillar which are already ready, so that these can be concluded before the end of the legislative period. If there is a further delay in December, the chair of the transport committee, Brian Simpson (S&D, UK), has not ruled out a “un-coupled” vote under those circumstances. (MD/transl.fl)
