Brussels, 25/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 20-21 November, the European Commissioner for Transport visited China and confirmed that closer ties between Europe and China would be made in the urban transport field. The Commissioner, opening the EU-China urban forum on 20 November, told European and Chinese mayors that there was a risk of the quality of life in cities deteriorating and said that together Europe and China could “lead the way towards sustainable urbanisation and create a win-win situation for our citizens, business and the environment”. The Chinese government and European Commission will therefore strengthen their cooperation in public transport operations and management, traffic congestion management, sustainable urban mobility planning and urban road safety. The Commissioner devoted part of his visit to aviation, meeting the Chinese minister responsible for civil aviation and visiting an Airbus assembly line. (MD/transl.fl)
