Brussels, 25/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 22 November, ASCAME (the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry) organised a forum for businesswomen in Barcelona, in collaboration with the secretariat general of the UfM (Union for the Mediterranean). The idea was to support networking among businesswomen. The event was co-organised with AFAEMME (the Association of Organisations of Mediterranean Businesswomen) which presents itself as the federation of business women's associations. Launched in 2002, it currently has 41 member organisations in 22 countries.
One of the themes of the meeting was how to enhance the role of women in economic activity and development. The importance of entrepreneurship education, of training for women and of increased institutional and financial support for Mediterranean SMEs led by women was highlighted.
A Mediterranean conference on projects in the area of gender equality and empowerment of women will take place in Barcelona in March 2014. (FB/transl.fl)
