Support for stronger political and economic governance

Brussels, 30/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 30 July, as part of the SPRING programme (Support for Partnership, Reform and Inclusive Growth), the European Commission adopted a governance support programme for Algeria, which will receive €10 million in funding. The programme will support the creation of dialogue areas between Parliament (People's National Assembly) and civil society, improve citizens' access to the legal system and enhance external verification of public spending and follow-up assessments of public service performances, the Commission explained. This governance support programme in Algeria is directly linked to be priorities put forward by the Algerian government and aims to provide support to bodies playing an important role in the country's governance (e.g. the two houses of parliament, the Anticorruption Office, Court of Auditors, journalism school and the bar).
