Brussels, 30/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved co-financing from the European structural funds for a major waste water treatment project in Romania.
On 26 July, the Commission gave its go-ahead to a cohesion fund payment of €130 million for a waste water treatment project around the Romanian capital, Bucharest. The whole project will cost €416.5 million, and includes the rehabilitation and extension of the waste water collection and treatment systems providing full waste water treatment before discharge into sensitive waters. Johannes Hahn, the European commissioner for regional development, said: “This investment will significantly improve the quality of life of the more than two million citizens around Bucharest. It will improve the water quality of the Dambovita river and hence be beneficial for the human health of the population. It will also enhance the economic attractiveness of the area for businesses and companies”. (MD/transl.jl)
