Brussels, 30/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - Within the framework of the “twinning” programmes under EU neighbourhood policy, the Commission has proposed support when it comes to fixing the guarantee provided by the designation of origin of Algerian agricultural products intended for export to the Community market.
The Algerian media have reported on the matter based on information developed by the national press agency, whereby the operation will consist of giving distinctive signs, such as geographical indications and designation of origin for products.
The Commission has made a call for proposals for selecting European partners, according to the “twinning” principle when operators come from the same sector and provide their experience and know-how to the benefit of the beneficiary country. The project could be carried out in a few months' time and relate to typical products such as dates (of the “Deglet Nour” kind) and olives. The plan to show the origin of products on product labels comes in addition to that on the creation of the observatory of agricultural and agri-food channels, launched in 2012 and now being implemented.
