Brussels, 30/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 29 July, Reuters reported sources close to the matter saying that, on 6 August, the European Commission will give the go-ahead to the merger of two United States' airlines, American Airlines, a subsidiary of AMR, and US Airways, because both companies have agreed to give up their landing slots at Heathrow and Philadelphia Airports. The merger plans were announced in February and the new airline, to be known as American Airlines, will be the biggest airline in the US and one of the biggest in the world with share capital of $11 billion. It is expected to generate more than $1 billion in synergies by 2015. The deal is still being assessed by the US competition authorities. It is the fourth big merger in aviation in the US over the past six years. (FG/transl.fl)
