Brussels, 21/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 20 June, the European Commission sent a formal request (first stage in infringement procedure) to the Czech Republic, Spain, Poland and Slovenia, for failing to fully transpose into national law the directive establishing a Community code on medicines for human use, as they were supposed to do by 21 July 2012 at the latest. They have two months in which to inform the European Commission of measures taken with a view to ensuring strict compliance with the European legislation. If no appropriate measure is notified, the Commission may refer the matter to the Court of Justice of the European Union. In the same way, the Commission has sent a formal request to Luxembourg and Slovenia that have not fully transposed the directive on standards of quality and safety of human organs intended for transplantation, as they were supposed to do by 27 August 2012 at the latest. They also have two months in which to inform the Commission of the measures that they plan to take in order to remedy this. If no appropriate measure is notified, they could be referred to the EU Court of Justice. (IL/transl.jl)
