Brussels, 21/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 21 June, the European Commission announced the appointment of the first head of the European Commission Representation in the Republic of Croatia - His Excellency Ambassador Branko Baricevic - who will take up office on 1 July 2013.
On 1 July 2013, the Republic of Croatia will become the 28th member state of the European Union. Consequently, on this date, the current delegation of the European Union will close its doors and, instead, a Commission Representation will open - which will employ 18 staff members plus its head, Baricevic.
A career diplomat, Baricevic has been the head of mission of Croatia to the European Union in Brussels since 2005. He previously worked in different diplomatic missions of Croatia (to the USA, Cyprus and Portugal). Prior to his diplomatic career, Baricevic was a medical doctor; having studied in Zagreb, New York and Munich. (LC/transl.fl)
