Concrete initiatives for helping young people (CULT committee)

Brussels, 21/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - The culture and education committee (CULT) has called on the European Union and its member states to step up their efforts to combat youth unemployment, promote all forms of education and training, and increase funding for young people. This appeal was set out in a resolution by Giorgos Papanikolaou (EPP, Greece), adopted on 18 June. “It is of the utmost importance that during this period of crisis and high unemployment rates, Europe should find solutions and continue to inspire youth”, Papanikolaou said. The resolution examines implementation of the EU strategy for youth for 2010-2012. According to Papanikolaou, Europe has an opportunity to put into action tools, policies and mechanisms with a potential to respond in an integrated way to the challenges that young generations are facing today. His report calls for measures, mainly financial measures, to be adopted in order to complete the new European provisions in favour of young people, the “Youth Guarantee”. (IL/transl.jl)
