Brussels, 21/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - The completion of the single digital market must be acknowledged as a fundamental priority in order to strengthen the European Union's competitiveness, say the members of the EP internal market committee in a draft resolution adopted on 18 July. MEPs call for the setting in place of an ambitious strategy, in order to eliminate the obstacles to creating a single digital market, which is adjusted to suit present and future developments such as cloud computing and the emergence of a “big data” economy, and which stimulates the necessary investment in fixed and mobile networks. The resolution also expresses the general concern felt about the need to train workers as swiftly as possible so that they have the necessary qualifications required for using the new technologies. Finally, MEPs call for measures to strengthen the securing of networks and to enhance citizens' confidence in new technology. (IL/transl.jl)
