El Hadj Mohammed Moumouni is appointed ACP Group Secretary General

Brussels, 26/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - El Hadj Mohammed Moumouni, the former foreign minister of Ghana, is to become the new secretary general of the group of ACP states (Africa/Caribbean/Pacific) as of 30 March and for a tenure of just two years.

The extraordinary council of ACP ministers held in Brussels on 26 March selected Moumouni to replace Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas of Gabon, who has been appointed as Joint Special Representative and Chief Mediator for the United Nations and for the African Union for Darfur (Sudan) (See EUROPE10797).

The current secretary general of the ACP Group is standing down from his post on 30 March, half-way through his term of office - hence the need to rapidly appoint a successor. (AN/transl.jl)
