Brussels, 26/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - Silvia-Adriana Ticau (S&D, Romania), the rapporteur on review of the tachograph regulation (3821/85), has taken stock of progress made in institutional trialogue negotiations with her colleagues at the parliamentary committee on transport, on 26 March. She said that Parliament was insisting on minimum control equipment using distance communications to be used by inspectors (something that the Council considers too costly) and on the exceptions to be made for non-professional drivers within a radius of 100 kilometres of the company headquarters for heavy goods vehicles under 7.5 tonnes. This last demand is essential if an agreement is to be reached, Ticau said. She considers, moreover, that the Commission proposal on the digital tachograph has been improved by the Council and Parliament for many things, including personal data protection and the social chapter. A third meeting in trialogue will take place on 11 April. An agreement should then not be long coming on review of the provisions on the tachograph as proposed in July 2011 to put an end to fraud.
