Brussels, 18/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle visited Tunis last Thursday and Friday to reiterate “the readiness to help Tunisia in the process of transformation focusing on democratisation, political and economic reforms so that citizens can feel the difference”. “We are doing just that”, he said during a press conference. He met the country's authorities and political leaders - including from the Islamist Ennahdha party - as well as the secretary general of the trade union federation, UGTT.
During his visit, Füle signed two financing contracts - one for €1.8 million contributing to improving the juvenile justice system in Tunisia, the other for €550,000 for three and a half years which will finance a programme to counter gender-based violence and help female victims of violence in the north-east of Tunisia.
“The EU hails the success recorded in Tunisia since the revolution but notes a slow-down in the democratic transition process over recent months”, Füle stated, quoted by the official agency, TAP. (FB/transl.fl)
