Brussels, 15/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - This Tuesday 16 October, the commissioner with responsibility for education, culture, youth and multilingualism, Androulla Vassiliou, will present, at the first day of the “Culture in movement” conference (16-17 October, Brussels), the new “Creative Europe” programme, the aim of which is to put the audience, as well as artists, at the heart of the priorities. “We must redouble efforts to raise public interest in European culture and protect diversity. In order to achieve this, we must help artists and other cultural professionals to get in touch with new audiences, in their own country and beyond, to see their relationship with their audience in a different light and to diversify this”, the Commission stresses. “European audiences: 2020 and beyond" will be the central theme of the conference. Those taking part will explain what should be understood by “increasing the audience” and how this method may make culture and the arts more broadly accessible. (IL/transl.fl)
