15/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - Appointment of Yves Mersch to board of governors: no decision expected from European Council. A European source explained on Monday 15 October, in reply to a question about a possible decision at the European summit on the appointment of the governor of the Bank of Luxembourg to the ECB executive board, that the president of the European Council will remind his colleagues that work has not yet finished on this question (EUROPE 10702). The source also explained that, “we are waiting for the European Parliament to give its opinion on the question”. On Monday 22 October, the EP will hold a hearing for Mersch. It is expected to provide a non-binding negative opinion on this appointment, based not on the competence of the candidate but on the imbalance of gender representation on the executive board.
