Brussels, 21/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission does not believe all hope is lost for putting some order into the organisation of ports in Europe, particularly as the guidelines for trans-European transport networks give them a place of choice. On Thursday 21 June was due to receive advice from stakeholders (survey results on http://iaportenhancement.questionpro.com ) before beginning a review of European port policy. The last review dates back to 2007. As the gap grows between successful ports and those lagging behind, fairer competition rules have to be established. The review will concern not only river ports but also maritime ports, in order to better exploit their potential for growth and employment. The first results of the ports survey will be discussed by the institutions and stakeholders during a conference in Brussels, on 25 and 26 September. (MD/transl.jl)
