Brussels, 21/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission calls for an assessment to be made of work done to promote urban mobility. Last week, it opened a public consultation exercise running until 6 July relating to what has been achieved in the context of the action plan on urban mobility, adopted in September 2009. Twenty or so measures were to be applied at European level between 2009 and 2012 to help European towns to overcome current problems. The general principle of the action plan, which springs from the 2007 Green Paper on urban mobility, is to work at local level instead of using a universal approach. Implementation of the action plan should be examined this year. The public consultation is therefore an essential step in the analysis. In September, the first results will be forwarded to those taking part in the public consultation process. Comments on the assessment will allow the Commission to correct its course of action if necessary and to contemplate other action for urban mobility. (MD/transl.jl)
