Brussels, 22/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - EU policies continue to have a negative and significant impact on the countries of Africa and other developing countries, according to a report published on 22 November by the European NGO Confederation for Relief and Development, CONCORD. The report, entitled “Spotlight on EU Policy Coherence for Development” finds that: - ACP agriculture continues to be negatively affected by the EU's common agricultural policy; - ACP countries are experiencing more land grabs due to biofuel demands triggered by the EU's renewable energy policy; - migration and human security are affected by EU policies that fail to meet rights obligations; - and the EU is failing to comply with the Lisbon Treaty that stipulates European policies should take into account development objectives. The report coincides with the holding of the 22nd session of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly in Lomé (Togo), due to end on Wednesday 23 November, and should above all vote a resolution on the impact that the Lisbon Treaty has on the ACP-EU partnership agreement.
