Brussels, 04/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - The EU delegation in Azerbaijan, in agreement with the heads of mission in that country, congratulated Azerbaijan for its election held on 24 October as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2012-2013, after 17 ballot rounds. In a press release on 28 October, the delegation welcomes the country's commitments to uphold the United Nation's values and principles of peace and democracy which are shared by the EU. The delegation underlines that it is ready to assist Azerbaijan to meet the “challenges and opportunities resulting from its new status and looks forward to enhanced cooperation and closer dialogue on all international issues”.
Guatemala, Morocco, Pakistan and Togo were also elected to non-permanent seats at the Security Council for the period 2012-2013. (CG/transl.jl)
