Brussels, 04/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - A business meeting on the theme of water treatment and management in the Mediterranean region has been announced for 7 and 8 November in Marseilles at the initiative of local businesses in connection with similar Italian networks. Support for this has been given, inter alia, by DG Enterprise of the European Commission.
The conference will cover sewerage and treatment of water and industrial effluents, desalination, water catchment and distribution, water management in coastal areas and, finally, analysis technology, and water-related engineering and support.
A network for the exchange and coordination of projects in this field has been in place since 1996. A Euro-Mediterranean ministerial conference on water management, in Marseilles, had approved the creation of the Euro-Mediterranean Information System on know-how in the water sector (SEMIDE). The conference had underlined how important the water-related stakes were in the construction of an area of Euro-Mediterranean solidarity. Implementation of SEMIDE began one year later in Naples with a specific conference that brought together technicians from 35 Euro-Mediterranean countries. The mission entrusted to this network is to identify and bring together all the information made available by all the different members. (FB/transl.jl)
