12/07/2011 (Agence Europe) - Bavaria backs FTT idea. The minister-president of Bavaria, Horst Seehofer, says he is a great supporter of the idea of a financial transaction tax (FTT), as suggested by the European Commission in its draft Financial Framework for 2014-2020. Seehofer was speaking at a press conference after meeting with the president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, on Monday 11 July. Most EU member states dislike the idea of an FTT, but Seehofer said it would be a real step forward if the EU were to introduce such a tax. He said that the actual details of how such a tax would work in practice and what the proceeds would be used for would naturally need to be discussed, but the idea itself was tempting.
