22/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - EU and Japan to work together to develop internet of future. The EU and Japan have decided to work together on research into developing the internet of the future and new-generation networks. The deputy director-general of DG Information Society, Zoran Stancic, and Japanese Minister for Home Affairs and Communications Tetsuo Yamakawa decided after a meeting on 17 June to develop joint calls for proposals in the field of research into information and communication technologies, which will be launched in 2012-2013. The EU and Japan share many objectives in the design of the internet of the future, the Commission stresses in a press release, particularly in terms of security and flow management. Challenges of such a magnitude need a global response and should be managed at international level, it continues. (I.L./transl.fl)
