Brussels, 22/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - The heads of state or government of the 27 countries of the European Union, meeting in Brussels, on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 June, will devote most of the summit to economic issues and immigration - see pages 6, 7 and 8 of this newsletter. The 27 leaders will also debate developments in the countries of the southern Mediterranean, particularly Libya, and in Syria and the Middle East, and will call for negotiations on Croatia's accession to the EU to be completed by the end of the month. Discussions will begin with a working dinner, after leaders have held a meeting with European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek. European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet will attend the dinner. On Friday, the only discussion session scheduled will take place in the morning, from 10.00. The summit will close with a working lunch. Press conferences have been planned for Thursday after dinner and Friday at the end of the meeting. On Thursday morning, the leaders of the main European political groupings, Christian Democrats, Socialists and Liberals, will prepare for the summit with party meetings. (Gp/transl.rt)
