Brussels, 14/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - The new secretary general of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Youssef Amrani of Morocco, will officially take up his duties on 1 July for a tenure ending in 2014. With this gap filled, it will be up to Euro-Mediterranean partners to agree on the designation of joint presidencies to replace France and Egypt. Consultation is underway on this subject.
The secretary general has, in the meanwhile, examined the programme of work and the projects to be triggered as part of the cooperation planned. On 6 June, a “roadmap” was presented to the representatives of various financing and support bodies for action to foster SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises). An action plan for the promotion and coordination of the SME support project has been put forward for scrutiny. (F.B./transl.jl)
