22/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - The Spinelli Group “Shadow Council”, which met on Tuesday 22 March (see related article) has taken the view that the vote on UN Security Council Resolution 1973 infringed Article 34 of the Lisbon Treaty which states that, when member states are represented on an international body, the European position has to be coordinated by the high representative for foreign affairs. “There was no attempt at coordination before the Security Council discussions. The United Kingdom, France, and Portugal voted for the resolution while Germany abstained”, Daniel Cohn-Bendit told press. Military intervention “must not seek to displace the Libyan revolution, which alone must decide” whether the Gaddafi regime should be toppled, he added. (L.C./transl.rt)
